Walked for over four thousand years the Labyrinth takes three young explorers along a path that twists and turns, through time and space, to a place of the ancestors. To the ancient lands of Kemet and Egypt, where advanced civilisations existed and where our seekers experience a new identity. As they venture along the labyrinthine path the present merges with the past and time stands still, they see their lives unravel, all they have been told, all that has been withheld, becomes a mirage.
What is real and what is a lie, made up by empire and learnt in history lessons they found no connection to?
Even as they struggle with this inner turmoil, as archaeology students and volunteers, the ancestral labyrinth one of Egypt’s most historically and archaeologically significant sites, is being fought over. Official restrictions on excavation and conservation have placed the site in critical danger.
As the long days excavating and researching become more desperate, our adventurers spend nights dreaming, astral travelling, and envisioning a new earth, a new time, where all will truly belong. Is this all just fantasy or as they retrace their steps out of the Labyrinth have they been connected to their own empowerment and found a new purpose? A provocative, inspiring and dynamic play – The Labyrinth connects young people to ancestry and heritage building emotional and psychological resilience, and strengthening identity and belonging. It involves shifting the narrative and looking at global history through a de-colonial lens where we celebrate and respect a more accurate story of the past and its legacy for the future.

We may all walk the same path, but no two journeys are the same. As we move through it, past, present and future meet inviting us to reflect on where we’ve come from, where we are now, and what we might create together.
Rooted in decolonial epistemology and the power of storytelling, The Labyrinth asks us to question what we have inherited, what we believe is possible, and how we might imagine a more equitable and just future.
