YOUTH ARTS CHARTER
After the Uncaging Our World Festival in July 2024 young people from across the globe came together to create a Youth Arts Charter at our Climate Symposium. A pledge for all artists to commit to climate justice and social change through their work.
1. Artists pledge to ensure there is time at the beginning middle and end of each performance for mindful reflection for the audience and actors to reflect on their intentions and actions.
2. Aiming to source clothing from ethical providers i.e. using second-hand clothing and re-using clothing.
3. Through my art I will aim to affect social change, giving young people the opportunity and ability to learn, educate, and inspire.
4. As artists we promise to respect the earth and realise that we must be in equilibrium with it to protect the future of our planet. We will treat places and spaces with kindness, dignity, and respect.
5. As artists we must work collaboratively with environmentalists, climate activists, academics, professionals, and other sectors to guide us towards a holistic environmental perspective.
6. As artists we promise to make art as accessible as possible to everyone by having pay-as-you-feel tickets and allowing for concessions.
7. As artists we realise that all art is political and imbued with meaning and any work we shape and create is a catalyst for social change.
8. As artists we live the realities we paint and shape therefore our art must be symbolic of the actions and steps we take to care for our environment.
9. As artists our work is used to inspire a hopeful future for coming generations and the future we wish to see.
