Mandala artistic director Yasmin Sidhwa, together with creative producer Euton Daley, has been asked to work on theatricalising new work from international poets Adnan al-Sayeghi and Jenny Lewis for the Poesi-O-Rama Festival in Malmo, Sweden. Invited by Hassan Hadi, Director of the Modern Art Theatre Group in Malmo, the festival is dedicated to the memory of the Nobel Prize-winning Swedish Poet Laureate, Tomas Tranströmer, with whom both Hassan and Adnan worked. The festival, on 17 September 2016, is a cross-cultural, multimedia showcase expressing ideas about resistance to oppression and inequality.
Jenny and Adnan asked Yasmin and Euton to work on Jenny’s new work Who can climb the sky? and extracts from Adnan’s Uruk’s Anthem. Both pieces explore ideas based on the ancient Epic of Gilgamesh re-imagining it in both ancient and modern times.
Yasmin will be performing at the Festival with Jenny, Adnan and other actors. Both Yasmin and Euton will perform in them when it comes to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, on the 6 November 2016. Watch this space…
