Alice and the Bag Lady
Alice and the Bag Lady, was our first production: a new play created by Mandala with young people aged 16-19. Its theme, Oxford as a divided city, was devised as a forum for debate for an international conference, run by the University of Oxford, on Planned Violence: Post/colonial Urban Infrastructures and Literature, which explored the shifting relationship between urban planning, violence and literary representation from colonial into postcolonial times.
The 30-minute play provided an effective and important stimulus to the debates which followed, involving the 60 delegates taking part plus the ten young people who were in the play.
This project has fed into our work and helped to shape our evolving Year 3 programme, Postcode Poverty.
